In 2024, I began a year-long photography project documenting the natural habitat at Shell Ridge Open Space in Walnut Creek, Calif. I was drawn to the open space because of it’s natural beauty and diversity. Over the span of one year I made over 20,000 thousand pictures from sunrise to sunset. The more I visited the open space the more I noticed how things don’t stay the same. The majestic old Oak trees have toppled over because of the wind and erosion. The Acorn woodpeckers have babies and then move from tree to tree once they have grown. The California golden poppy may or may not bloom in February. And in August the male tarantulas come out in search of a mate. With every visit I was always amazed how I could go back again and again and find something beautiful and unique each time.
